Messier 51 (also knows as Whirlpool Galaxy) is an interacting spiral galaxy. It lies in the constellation Canes Venatici with a distance of 23 million light years fromn earth. It has a magnitude of 9.26 (B) and an apparent size of 13.71 x 11.67 arcmins.
